What I’m Reading Jan 2017

What I’m reading for January of this year is proving quite interesting.

Venom’s Taste (House of Serpent’s #1)

One of a giant pile of Forgotten Realms titles I got at a library book sale a while back and have been slowly working my way through, so far this book is proving to quite entertaining. I had a little trouble connecting with the main character at first but he managed to endear himself fairly quickly, especially given the less than stellar hand life has dealt him.

Our intrepid hero is a former orphan who escaped one set of cruel masters at the orphanage only to fall right into forced servitude  to the thieves guild after they discovered his talent for rope weaving and realized how useful he could be. When a disease ridden cult kidnaps him and several others, but the intervention of a mysterious serpent saves his life, he finds himself indebted to yet another master with a hold over his actions.

Contact (Encounter Series #1)

A book recommended to me by a friend, and the first title released by a friend of that friend. So far I’m finding it fairly standard YA fare, with a girl just starting college having personal and family troubles to deal with, but I suspect we’re in for a fairly significant boat rocking pretty soon. Too soon to really say how well I’m liking it.

Beyond the Missouri, and Everything, Everything

These titles I’m still working on from last month (I suspect I will be working on “Beyond the Missouri” for quite a while). I am almost finished with “Everything, Everything” and the twist at the beginning of the final act was something I probably should have seen coming, but didn’t, and it was awesome! I don’t want to spoil anything but I highly recommend it.
