Here’s what I’m reading right now. You can connect with me and stay up to date with what I’m reading on Goodreads or Bookstr (though I update Bookstr much less often).

Beyond the Missouri:  The Story of the American West

An interesting history book about the story of the American West. So far I’m finding the writing a little dry but the information quite good, some of it being a different take than I’ve seen before. I read pieces of this for a history class in college and have decided to go back and read the whole thing.

Everything, Everything

A story about a teenage girl with a compromised immune system that has lived her live in a bubble house to keep from getting sick. Things get crazy when she starts to fall for the boy next door. So far a refreshingly realistic take on how a teen relationship develops, in spite of the unusual premise. Listening to it in audio. I don’t really care for the narrator but the story is good.

Goblinwars:  The Siege of Talonrend

* Finished *

In this epic fantasy we follow a disillusioned paladin sent to find a lost king and a goblin who is born free of the hive mind that controls most of his species and can think for himself. I actually finished this title yesterday, so here’s my review:

I found it okay, but I have no interest in finishing the series. I just couldn’t connect with the characters and felt the pacing was too fast for everything this book was trying to accomplish. I didn’t feel like the motivations of some of the main characters were made clear enough for us to understand why they were doing what they were doing. I gave it two stars for “I thought it was okay”.

Starflight

A YA Scifi about a woman trying to make her way to the outer rim for a job opportunity , who has to indenture herself to a former enemy to afford the fare. I’m only one chapter in, so too soon to tell how we’ll I’m going to like it, but something about the tone of this first chapter isn’t sitting right with me. We’ll see how it goes.
