July brings with it, a 30th of the month. Ah, what a wondrous time to be a nerd. Let’s get right to it!

Books

1.  Anne McCaffrey’s Daughter Takes Up the “Dragon Riders of Pern” Series

In the most recent “Leaning Pile of Books” over at Fantasy Book Cafe I discovered some very cool information. Anne McCaffrey’s daughter, Gigi McCaffrey, has decided to write her own original material in the “Dragon Riders of Pern” universe. It will be very interesting to see a new generation’s take on this well-loved universe.

2.  13 Books Featuring Teens With Magical Abilities

Because can one ever have too many books in their life featuring teens with magical abilities? No. No, they can’t.

Movies/Shows

3.  Amazon Chooses Showrunners for the “Lord of the Rings” Television Series

One idea is to have the show center around the early years of Aragorn. I’m not sure how I feel about that, but I’ll be keeping a close eye on this.

4.  First Look at Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth in “Men in Black” Reboot

(Those aren’t them. I couldn’t get the actual pictures to load here, so you’ll have to click the link to see them) I haven’t seen the Thor movies yet myself, but everyone seems to like Chris Hemsworth, so maybe this will be a good reboot. I will admit I’m keeping expectations low, just in case.

Video Games

5.  Games That Will Blow Us All Away in 2019 (According to these guys)

Some of these look pretty cool. I’m a bit dubious of the claim that a skateboarding game is going to blow anyone away, but still.

6.  15 Amazing Dragon Boss Battles

Although I’m not sure whether I’d count Ridley as a dragon.

Extras

7.  Worst Video Game Endings of All Time

After reading this, I’m kind of glad I never played Darksiders 2. I greatly enjoyed the first game and this ending sounds like it falls flat.

8.  Cast of Voltron Celebrates Season 7 With 7 Things We Didn’t Know About the Show

“Voltron:  Legendary Defender” has for me proven to be one of those rare reboots that not only lives up to the nostalgia in my mind of the original, but actually surpasses it. Exciting to know that the seasons are going to be longer again!
