5 Reasons to Listen to Red Desert Role Play Tonight

Share Now

As you may be aware, some good friends and I recently started an actual-play podcast, Red Desert Role Play, featuring our ongoing Table Top RPG campaign “The Fog of Verrilan”. We’ve been getting some nice feedback from listeners and, just in case you aren’t one of those yet, here are five reasons you should give the podcast a listen tonight.

5. We’re funny, but also serious

Whether its NPC’s telling our party they’ve seen the man they’re searching for “Up your butt”, beginning a play session with a series of dad jokes, or finidng the humor in how a player’s character reacts to something, we laugh a lot in these games, and I think you’re going to be laughing with us.

Which isn’t to say that we don’t take the story seriously. We definitely do, and I think the characters and storytelling are something many fantasy readers will find appealing.

4. We don’t take ourselves too seriously

Okay, so we may be serious about bringing you the best story we can, but that doesn’t mean we get too full of ourselves. We’re playing a game, after all, and the objective is to have fun while sharing that fun with our listeners. So don’t think you’ll be rolling your eyes at us because we’re too caught up in our own opinion of ourselves.

3. We have an owl-person trying to deal with a “homicidal teenage lizard”

Yes, one of the character conflicts we’ve bumped up against involves a character unexpectedly taking out a thug in a brutal manner as a result of something from his back story. This, understandably, leads another member of the party who just hired him to help with her mission to become a bit wary of this apparent loose cannon she’s invited on to her ship.

How does it resolve? Well, you’ll have to listen to find out…

2. We have a crystal man that everybody loves

Yes, one of our PC’s is a creature made entirely out of living crystal, and he’s so personable and welcoming that pretty much everybody loves him. With the dark things that are coming his way, this sheltered crystal being is about to be woken up to some of the misery of the world, and how he reacts to it will be fun to follow.

1. Our plain old human character is anything but plain

With a powerful trauma haunting his every move, our human PC has a lot of baggage to deal with as he moves towards rebuilding himself and reclaiming his life. How will this mission affect him? And can he be there for his new friends when they need him? All of the characters are really fun to follow, and I think fantasy readers are going to be intrigued.
